Appearance: Below, hindwing is yellow-orange or grayish-orange with a pale median spot band that encloses an elongated basal spot. Above, orange with variable black borders. Males have a pronounced black stigma.

Size: Small. 11/16-1 1/4 inches

Habitat: Cool, moist meadows.

Season: 1 Flight. June to Sept.

Larval Foodplant: Grasses
