Appearance: Above, brown-black with yellow-orange band on forewing. Below, brownish with bold, centered silver-white patch on hindwing (pattern is very distinctive).
Wingspan: Medium; 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 inches.
Habitat: Forest edges, disturbed and open woodlands, riparian areas, and gardens; plains, foothills.
Flight Times: May to August; one brood. Chrysalis overwinters.
Larval Foodplant: Locusts and other legumes.
