Grass Skippers
Appearance: Above, dark brown, the male with a square black stigma and the female with a white patch in a row of several clear spots. Below, red-brown with a whitish fringe on hindwing, a pale lone spot toward the base, and a faint postmedian yellow spotband.
Wingspan: Small; 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 inches.
Habitat: Clearings in pine woodlands, mountain meadows, stream courses and ravines; foothills, montane.
Flight Times: Late June to August; one brood.
Larval Foodplant: Grasses, especially pine dropseed.
