Hairstreaks and Elfins
Appearance: A tailless hairstreak. Below, tannish-gray with a marginal row of coral spots and a postmedian row of black spots circled in white. Lacks the blue hindwing spot of many hairstreaks.
Size: Small; 1 to 1 1/4 inches
Habitat: Open brushy canyons, gullies, ravines and hillsides
Season: May to early September; 1 brood
Larval Foodplant: Chokecherry, wild cherry and wild plum
Did You Know…
Eggs of this species spend the winter on the bark or in the duff at the base of the host plant.
