Appearance: Above, male forewing orange with a broad dark border; female the same with a black streak below cell. Below, orange-yellow with light veins.

Wingspan: Small; 1 1/8 to 1 7/16 inches.

Habitat: Undisturbed tall and mid-grass prairie; plains, foothills.

Flight Times: June through July.

Larval Foodplant: Big Bluestem and possibly other native grasses.
